More than 300 of Scotland’s top developers are expected to turn out next month at Edinburgh’s Sheraton Grand Hotel for the 18th annual ScotlandIS conference.
They will take centre stage at ScotSoft for the first time thanks to a new strand of the digital technology event – dubbed a specialist ‘Developers’ Conference’ – dedicated to all things technical.
The three key themes of the Developers Conference are Inspire, Learn, and Play and speakers are set to address topics such as big data and developing cognitive applications.
Kimberley Blessing, a web development and technology director at US user experience consultancy Think Brownstone, will open the Inspire segment of the programme and challenge the audience to open their minds to building inclusive products for people with disabilities.
Learn speakers will include developers from FanDuel, SAS and IBM, while the Play experience will include a high-tech games room where delegates can try out the latest gadgets.
Speakers at ScotSoft’s ‘Global Forum’ will include Joe Marks, formerly of Disney Research and co-founder of Upfront Analytics, and Duncan Anderson, CTO for IBM’s Watson Europe.
The event will conclude with the Young Software Engineer of the Year awards dinner at the EICC to celebrate the cream of undergraduate talent from Scotland’s universities.
ScotlandIS chief executive Polly Purvis said: “The Global Forum has traditionally attracted CEOs, directors and other senior managers and often the developers were left at home. We wanted to create a special event that would focus on the issues that matter to them and provide a forum for learning and sharing knowledge. There will also be a fun element with the Games Room where they will be able to play with all the latest kit, including drones and robots.
“The Scottish digital technologies are thriving and new research forecasts continued strong growth across the sector. At ScotlandIS we’re dedicated to building a vibrant community, which amplifies the ambition, talent and experience abundant across our industry. ScotSoft is the biggest event of its kind in Scotland to bring business leaders, developers and visionaries together to make this happen.”
ScotlandIS is the trade body for Scotland’s digital technology sector.
