Edinburgh and China to bond over gifted coins

Edinburgh will further strengthen its links with China this month thanks to a series of celebratory coins gifted to the 66th Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo by The Royal Mint for Chinese dignitaries attending the event.
The city will host the Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Liu Xiaoming, as part of the Tattoo’s ‘East meets West’ theme.
During the visit, Xiaoming will be presented with the gold and silver lunar coins, which are from The Royal Mint’s Shēngxiào coin collection celebrating the Year of the Sheep, as a special gesture in recognition of the 2015 China-UK Year of Cultural Exchange.
Designed for The Royal Mint by British-Chinese artist and printmaker Wuon-Gean Ho, the coins feature a pair of Swaledale sheep, selected because of the appearance of their smooth curled horns and the swirls of their wool coats.
