An Edinburgh firm which makes sports socks has been selected from more than 500 applicants to be part of an exhibition which showcases the best of UK innovation.
TEKO, which has developed an award-winning recyclable multi-sport sock, will now join more than 150 other hand-picked exhibitors in representing the UK’s most innovative and game-changing business ideas at Innovate 2015.
It was chosen by a panel of experts for its new ‘REGENERATE ME’ Super Cushion multi-sport sock, which was a winner in the ‘Sustainable Innovations’ category at the 10th annual International OutDoor Industry Awards held in Germany earlier this year.
Its Super Cushion sock has been made with a microfibre which has been specially developed in conjunction with nylon regenerator Econyl and can be 100% recycled.
TEKO owner Gordon Fraser said: “Being chosen to showcase at Innovate 2015 following our award win at OutDoor further proves the merit of our product and consolidates the judges’ decision in Germany. We strive to produce the best socks on the planet and the best socks for the planet, and being recognised for our efforts by such prestigious organisations amongst stiff competition is a true testament to TEKO’s pioneering nature as an eco-brand and further inspires us to continue developing and producing product that pushes the boundaries of innovation.”
“Exhibiting at Innovate 2015 will be particularly beneficial to us as a company as it not only lets us show our product, but offers a unique opportunity to introduce ourselves to new overseas opportunities and presents collaborative networking opportunities to maximise our engagement with others visiting the event. We look forward to presenting our socks and making new connections!”
New for 2016, TEKO has designed and produced two special, distinctive socks for the project using the Ocean Blue yarn colour as an accent yarn to represent where the yarns came from and the infinity icon to represent the Econyl regeneration process.
The Marathon Super Cushion Socks are constructed with 100% regenerated polyamide from rescued fishing nets, which are regenerated in the Econyl plant; this is a world first. The result is super eco-friendly socks that offer superior cushioning, breathability and durability that at the end-of-life can be regenerated and new TEKO socks recreated. This is a true circular process, which saves on waste, energy and pollution.
Innovate 2015, which is hosted by UK Trade & Investment and Innovate UK, is to be held at Old Billingsgate in London on November 9 and 10.
