A small number of flights to and from Edinburgh will be subject to a route change over the next couple of weekends while annual maintenance is carried out on the airport runway.
Those scheduled between the hours of 11pm and 5pm will take off from and land on Edinburgh Airport’s secondary runway until Sunday, November 8 – potentially affecting residents in Bonnyrigg, Loanhead, Fairmilehead, Colinton, Sighthill, South Gyle, South Queensferry, Kirkliston, Linlithgow and Bo’ness.
According to Edinburgh Airport, this is when there is minimal air traffic and is the same alternative flight path used last year during similar works, which will include runway and stand maintenance and airfield surveying.
Edinburgh Airport communications director Gordon Robertson said: “Only a very small number of flights will operate during the maintenance period and these flights will have to use an alternative route. Our main runway will reopen before 5am each morning so flights can operate as normal.
“At Edinburgh Airport we are committed to having the highest possible safety standards and these essential works maintain that standard throughout the winter, when extreme weather conditions can test the durability of the runway surface.”
