De-Ice, one of the UK’s longest established gritting and snow clearance specialists, has opened its first Scottish office in Edinburgh.
The winter risk management specialist – which manages operations centrally from its head office in Essex with the support of “strategically placed” satellite offices – has also appointed Iain McDonald as its first contracts manager for the region.
MacDonald, who has more than 16 years’ experience working on the Scottish Trunk Road Management and Maintenance contracts, will be responsible for signing new business and organising operations for the Scottish region.
He previously held the position of network manager on the North West Trunk Road Unit, which is Scotland’s largest, covering 1,330km across an area from Campbeltown to Wick and including the notorious A9 from Perth to Inverness.
Prior to this, MacDonald oversaw the delivery of the Scottish Ministers’ winter service requirements as winter service manager on the North West Unit.
He is also a corporate member of the Chartered Institute of Highways & Transportation.
MacDonald said: “This is an exciting opportunity and I am looking forward to spearheading De-Ice’s growth in Scotland.
“With the increasingly litigious society that we live in, it’s important for companies to have the right systems and procedures in place when it comes to winter gritting and risk management.
“Many organisations try to self-service or don’t have the correct levels of support in place. Working with companies such as De-Ice, they are able to rely on fail-safe audit trails to show that all the necessary precautions were taken to prevent accidents from occurring on their sites. I want to work hard to drive this message home in Scotland.
“I also anticipate my experience helping to open doors within the public sector for De-Ice – something which we are keen to explore.”
De-Ice managing director Mark Lopez said: “We felt the time had come to set up a physical presence in Scotland and to take on the right contracts manager to run the operation.
We’re delighted to welcome Iain MacDonald to the team. His experience will be invaluable and we will be concentrating on really driving forward our growth in the region – reinforcing our position as one of the most well-known and renowned winter maintenance providers.”
