Edgar Stewart boosts board of directors with key appointment

Water and energy recruitment specialist Sara Zorriasatein joins the Edinburgh team

Edinburgh recruitment firm Edgar Stewart has made a key appointment to its board of directors.
The company has appointed Sara Zorriasatein, who heads up water and energy recruitment spin-out ‘Cyrus’, as director with immediate effect.
Zorriasatein has helped to grow Edgar Stewart’s turnover from £500,000 to nearly £3 million after launching Cyrus, which is the latest recruitment spin-out to be incubated at the firm’s start-up hub in Stockbridge.
She invested £20k of her own money in the venture – which was quickly matched by Edgar Stewart, therefore doubling its capital.
Zorriasatein also took up residency at Edgar Stewart’s business incubator and start-up hub, where she has benefited from support and a financial remuneration package while she developed her new enterprise.
Since then, she has been instrumental in helping the company to increase its turnover by 300 per cent.
As well as founding the first service of its kind exclusively dedicated to the country’s niche and largely public-funded water and energy markets, she brings more than a decade’s recruitment expertise to the table.
Prior to launching Cyrus, Zorriasatein set up Search Consultancy’s Energy Division and grew the team, which she later led to diversify into renewables, petrochemicals, nuclear and oil and gas before deciding to set up on her own.
Born and brought up in Edinburgh, she spent more than seven years at Hays – initially starting out as a recruiter for the property and construction market before moving on to water and utilities recruitment. Hays later diversified, setting up an energy division.
In 2009, Zorriasatein headed up a number of the division’s accounts, focussing on external suppliers to Scottish Water. One of her key projects included recruiting for Dalkia (which has since rebranded to Veolia) at Cameron Distillery after the firm commissioned a new biomass plant to be based on-site to help create energy from waste.
Although other recruitment firms have since also expanded to accommodate water and energy divisions, Zorriasatein’s is the first to focus solely on this sector.
Bruce Hydes, founding director at Edgar Stewart, which has pledged to invest £120k in Scottish recruitment start-ups this year, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Sara to the board of directors.
“She has already played a huge part in helping to grow the organisation and we look forward to further benefiting from her expertise and business savvy.”
Zorriasatein said: “I’m looking forward to taking on the extra challenge of director at Edgar Stewart.
“It’s a pleasure to work with such a forward-thinking firm which is genuinely bucking the trend and helping to change the face of recruitment.”
Sara joins fellow directors Bruce Hydes and Craig Jackson.
