New Group Board appointment at Macdonald Hotels

Chain strengthens the Board which operates more than 50 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Europe

Macdonald Hotels and Resorts, one of the UK’s largest independent hotel groups with venues across Scotland, has added Simon Jackson, group sales director and chief executive of Macdonald Resorts to its Group Board which operates 55 hotels and resorts across the UK, Ireland, Spain and Portugal.
Jackson joined the Group in 2003 as marketing director of Macdonald Resorts, having previously worked across the USA, Europe and the Caribbean for leading leisure brands including Airtours and Diamond Resorts International.
He was appointed chief executive of the Resorts business in 2005, successfully reshaping the business to become one of the most successful resort brands in Europe. He was also appointed group sales director in 2013.
Deputy chairman and group managing director Gordon Fraser said: “Simon’s appointment to the group board reflects his substantial contribution to the company over the last 13 years in various roles and he will play a significant role in the next phase of the company’s development.”
Jackson added: “This is an enormously exciting time for the company, with significant opportunities to build on our strong performances in recent years.
“The board has high ambitions and a clear commitment to invest in our people and our customer experience across the estate.”
As the Macdonald Hotel’s Group celebrates its 25th year of successful business, it recently opened a new five-star resort in the Serra de Monchique mountains of the Algarve, Macdonald Monchique Hotel & Spa, which in its third month is already enjoying 100% occupancy.
The Group also celebrated the 150th birthday of the Macdonald Randolph Hotel in Oxford and the 50th birthday of the Macdonald Aviemore resort.
