Slug and Lettuce operators crowned Scotland’s Best Large Employer

Stonegate Pub Company honoured at Scottish Training Federation Awards

Stonegate Pub Company, which operates 44 pubs in Scotland, including the Slug and Lettuce in Edinburgh’s George Street and Omni Centre, and the East Port Bar in Dunfermline, has been crowned Best Large Employer at the Scottish Training Federation (STF) Awards.
The group beat off stiff competition from the likes of ScotRail before being awarded the top title at the STF annual conference, whose awards ceremony was hosted by Scottish TV presenter Kaye Adams and BBC weather presenter Judith Ralston, at Crieff Hydro on Tuesday (27 September).
The award acknowledges the company’s career development and training initiatives, which has, among other achievements, recently seen its 100th deputy graduate to general manager as a result of its accelerator programme.
Stonegate, which strengthened its Scottish estate by buying 15 pubs from Maclay Inns last year, also owns brands such as Yates and Common Room as well as individual pubs which form 75% of its portfolio.
Tim Painter, HR director for Stonegate, said: “This award is a further endorsement of our commitment to providing first class training and developing our own talent. It is particularly rewarding to be recognised by the Scottish Training Federation, given our expansion and significant investment in Scottish pubs and in creating jobs for Scotland.
“I would particularly like to thank our general managers in Scotland for their enthusiastic support of our award winning career pathway, which was on Tuesday evening.”
Ellen Milne, a duty manager with Stonegate Pub Company was nominated by Forth Valley College and shortlisted for another award, Apprentice of the Year.
Stonegate Pub Company is the largest privately-held managed pub operator in the UK, with revenues in excess of 600 million pounds and employing circa 12,500 people.
The company has 665 pubs, split into the following formats; Slug & Lettuce, Yates, Common Room, Proper Pubs, Town Pub & Kitchen, Classic Inns and Venues.
