Fife-based firm wins Scottish Engineering 2017 President’s Award
Leviton-owned Brand-Rex – a global supplier of high-performance structured cabling systems – has landed the Scottish Engineering President’s Award for Outstanding Manufacturing Achievement in 2017.
The Fife-based firm has been designing, developing and manufacturing advanced cable and connectivity solutions from its head office in Glenrothes since 1972.
Managing Director Ian Wilkie said: “I’m delighted to accept this award on behalf of all the staff at Brand-Rex. We are proud to be recognised for our contribution to Scottish engineering and manufacturing.”
Brian Buchan of Scottish Engineering, which supports Scotland’s manufacturing industry through action, advice and training, added: “We are delighted to announce Brand-Rex as the winners of the Scottish Engineering President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement. We recognise that their cable manufacturing has remained in Glenrothes, whilst serving a truly global market is remarkable in today’s often outsourced manufacturing economy.”
In the past 20 years, more and more Scottish engineering companies have been forced to move some manufacturing and development jobs to lower-cost countries, but cable manufacturing at Brand-Rex has remained in Scotland and the firm says its goal is to increase the volume of cable produced at its Fife factory.
Brand-Rex is now one of only a few global-structured cabling and connectivity companies, with its manufacturing roots still firmly in Scotland.
The firm says the award not only honours this achievement, but also acknowledges Brand-Rex as a growing business bringing engineering and manufacturing jobs back to Scotland by training its workforce and engaging with the local community.
