Leonardo Hotels’ acquisition of Portland group to take its presence in Edinburgh to 445 bedrooms as it expands Scottish portfolio
Leonardo Hotels has further expanded its UK portfolio by acquiring Portland Hotels in a move which, combined with the Leonardo Royal which was acquired in October last year, takes its presence in Edinburgh to 445 bedrooms.
The group, which is the European division of Israeli-born Fattal Hotels, will now dominate a larger slice of the Scottish hotel market – also gaining a new-found presence in Glasgow, Perth and Aberdeen, with the addition of Portland Hotels adding 536 extra bedrooms to its Scottish portfolio.
The newly-acquired portfolio, which includes Edinburgh City Hotel; Edinburgh Capital; Glasgow Pond Hotel; the Huntingtower Hotel in Perth, and the Speedbird Inn in Aberdeen, will join the Leonardo Hotels family and will be integrated into the wider Leonardo portfolio, which will comprise more than 85 hotels following the acquisition.
Together with Leonardo Hotel London Heathrow Airport, Leonardo’s portfolio in the UK will grow to 1,048 bedrooms.

Currently spanning Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, England, Scotland, Spain, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary as well as Italy, the hotel group offers 14,000+ rooms and more than 25,000 m² of conference space.
The Leonardo Hotels umbrella brand encompasses Leonardo Hotels, Leonardo Royal Hotels, Leonardo Boutique Hotels, and NYX Hotels brands.
The group was advised by JLL Hotels and Hospitality Group and West Ridge Asset Management, French Duncan and DLA Piper. Brodies represented the exiting shareholders.
