This year’s VIBES Scottish Environment Business Awards winners have been revealed…
This year’s VIBES Scottish Environment Business Awards, which took place earlier today (Wednesday, 15 November) at The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh, saw more than 350 delegates turn out to discover Scotland’s most inspiring green businesses – as judged by a panel comprising Bob Downes of SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Agency), Professor Lorne Crerar of Highlands & Islands Enterprise, and Lady Susan Rice of Scottish Water.
Among the winners were Livingston-based shortbread, biscuit and oatcake manufacturer Arran Paterson; West Lothian’s Sibbald Limited, which provides specialist training and assessment; Edinburgh-headquartered Changeworks, which is one of Scotland’s largest environmental charities, and The Scottish Cafe & Restaurant and Diageo Leven, who were both Commended for their sustainable practices.
Following a sustainable two-course lunch, and during the course of the awards, delegates were addressed by SEPA’s Terry A’hearn, who gave the stand-out talk of the event on the circular economy and its synergy with the more frugal pre and post-war ethos of the 1930s.
The crowd also heard from Alan Mahon of Social Bite, who spoke about Sleep in the Park, the world’s largest sleep-out to raise money to tackle homelessness that’s set to take place in Princes Street Gardens this December, supported by comedians John Cleese and Rob Brydon, who are expected to turn up for the event.
Among the award nominees were Scottish Golf Ltd, the Scotch Whisky Association, Bright Green Hydrogen Limited, and Beyond Green, while guests included representatives from Fife Chamber of Commerce, the Energy Saving Trust, Edinburgh Trams, Scottish Institute for Remanufacture, RSPB, University of Strathclyde, British Gas, 2050 Climate Group, Scotland B2B (East Coast Edition), and many more.
