We can see some flashbacks of her happy times with her father appear. From her expression, you can guess that she thinks there is something wrong with her father’s death. She does not believe that her father’s death is natural. The behaviour of the butler and other servants will also make you suspicious of the fact. Finally, after the doctor’s comment, it is clear that there is a possibility that the reason for the Duke’s death is a curse or poison. After giving it a thought Cecilia orders the butler to prepare a funeral at night.

The Introduction of the Two Knights

As the story of The Flower of Veneration Chapter 1 progresses, it introduces two loyal Knights- Chris and Sophie. From their appearances and behaviour, you can guess that they were always by Cecilia’s side and had a close relationship with her. Their close relationship might also intrigue you. However, not much information is there about the two Knights apart from their conversation with Lady Cecilia. Chris cracks jokes about how everyone is behaving like Cecilia is the one behind her father’s death. Sophie, on the other hand, is agitated and threatens Chris to stop joking. The relationship between these two Knights is also somewhat amusing.

The bickering of the two knights helps Cecilia to loosen up a bit and she realizes that everyone is acting weirdly except these two. They haven’t changed a bit. This shows that her relationship with these two knights goes a long way back.  The three of them further converse about the behaviour of the other people in the mansion and Cecilia’s concern regarding her responsibilities after her father’s death.

The Conflict Regarding Cecilia Becoming the Sole Heir

This is probably the most important theme or section in this story. As mentioned previously Cecilia is the only child of the Duke and should be the sole heir of the dynasty. However, the story is set at a time when patriarchy was at its peak. From the words of Cecilia, it is clear that her relatives are not happy about her being the sole heir as she is a woman. Being aware of the gossip behind her back, Cecilia previously had tried to convince her father to remarry and have a male child. However, her father assured her that he believed in Cecilia and considered her as the rightful heir without any doubts. You can see some flashbacks of Cecilia with her father here which reveal the Duke’s utmost trust in his only daughter. Finally, in the end, you’re sure to get goose bumps when Cecilia takes her rightful position and proclaims herself the new “Liege and Lord of the Castle”. The Flower of Veneration Chapter 1 ends here revealing a lot of potential for the future.

Analysis of the main characters

Not many characters have been introduced in Chapter 1. However, these few characters are sure to catch your attention from the very start.

1. Lady Cecilia: As you know already, Lady Cecilia is the protagonist of the story and the potential heiress of the Saryan Dynasty. She is bold and straightforward in her approach. She handled the situation with great efficiency after her father’s death. If you are a fan of a strong and brilliant female character, Lady Cecilia is the one for you.
2. First Knight (Chris): From the beginning, you will find Chris as a witty and funny character. He can joke about anything and everything, even the death of the duke. His appearance provides some kind of comic relief during the tense atmosphere.
3. Second Knight (Sophie): The character of Sophie is a contrast to the character of Chris. From Lady Cecilia, we get to know that Sophie or Sophia is a commoner but was knighted due to her great swordsmanship. She appears to be simple-minded and naive even though she is the lord of an estate. To be honest, I find her character very interesting and I hope the further chapters unfold her character more. 
4. The Duke: Last but not least the Duke plays an important role in The Flower of Veneration Chapter 1. Even though the story begins with his death, we get to know his character through the flashbacks. He has been a loving father to Cecilia and trusted her as the rightful heir of the dynasty despite the strong opposition of the so-called relatives. His unnatural death brings a touch of suspense and mystery to the story.
