New conference spaces celebrate stellar first year
One year on from a major refurbishment and Edinburgh’s The Scotch Whisky Experience has reported record sales figures in its corporate and events spaces.
The five-star whisky visitor attraction has experienced a 27% increase in revenue over the past year, with the number of delegates up 55%.
The repurposing of the spaces has also seen their daytime use increase 56% over the past 12 months, which has created a better balance between daytime conferences and evening events.
As a result of the significant increase in business, the attraction has created two new full time positions in the corporate events team.
Wendy Neave, head of events and hospitality at The Scotch Whisky Experience, said: “Our top floor event spaces are some of the most unique and striking in Edinburgh, so we are extremely pleased that last year’s refurbishment is encouraging new audiences to use them.
“We’ve also put a lot of effort into placing whisky at the heart of each event, whether it’s an introductory tour of our attraction or a lesson in whisky wizardry with our popular Blend Your Own sessions, with many organisers reporting that it helps to drive attendance at their events.”
The Scotch Whisky Experience undertook a redevelopment of its top floor event suites last year, with each of the two rooms now featuring their own whisky inspired identity, alongside top of the range audio visual equipment and modern styling.
The larger Castlehill Room – which can cater for events of up to 80, including gala dinners or conferences – is home to new whisky focused artworks, created by artist blacksmith Elspeth Bennie.
The room’s vaulted ceiling features two bespoke light installations, comprising over 100 whisky barrel staves and hand blown glass ‘droplets’, which create an impressive ambient light show.
The Blender’s Room, which hosts the popular Scotch Whisky Training School and is ideal for smaller events such as corporate dinners or private tastings, has been inspired by a whisky blender’s sample room. Stripped back Victorian stonework uncovered during the renovation adds traditional character to the exterior wall. The room also features up-lit whisky samples and hand crafted oak cabinets, displaying a range of blended whiskies.
Both spaces also feature the latest multimedia screens and AV system.
