Classical Athens was a centre for the arts, learning and philosophy, home of Plato’s Academy and Aristotle’s Lyceum; it is widely referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy.
Today, a cosmopolitan metropolis, modern Athens is central to economic, financial, industrial, political and cultural life in Greece.
Gordon Dewar, Edinburgh Airport’s chief executive said: “Athens is one of the world’s oldest cities and Edinburgh is often known as The Athens of the North – so this exciting new route is sure to be welcomed by passengers from both Scotland and Greece.
“Aegean Airlines has shown great ambition to expand here at Edinburgh Airport as we continue to deliver more routes and destinations than ever before.”
