Three new appointments expand Thorntons Investments’ expertise

Firm says new recruits are of strategic importance

Thorntons Investments, a financial services firm specialising in investment management and wealth planning, has made three key appointments as part of its ambitious growth strategy for 2017.
Matthew Brown, Susan Bennett and Alison Miller joined the company in November in the roles of chartered investment manager, chartered financial planner and financial planner, respectively.
Stephen Webster, chief executive at Thorntons Investments, which has offices in Edinburgh, Dundee and St Andrews, said: “Recruiting three such experienced and accomplished practitioners, highlights our on-going progression as a thriving and ambitious company which is keen to invest in good people.  Matthew, Susan and Alison bring a wealth of experience and real passion for investment management and financial planning that will amplify the Thorntons Investments brand and support the continued growth of our business throughout Scotland.”
A former assistant director with Brewin Dolphin, Brown takes on the role of investment manager and will be providing investment management services and expert advice to clients on all aspects of investment management. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.
Bennett, who was also formerly with Brewin Dolphin, as divisional director, joins Thorntons Investments as chartered financial planner. She previously enjoyed an extensive career with RBS where she specialised in the management of high net worth clients, before joining Brewin Dolphin.  She is a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, which is regarded as one of the premier qualifications for those working in the financial services industry.
Miller, formerly with Edinburgh-based Anderson Strathern, joins the company as financial planner. During her career, she hasadvised on all areas of private client work, with particular emphasis on asset protection, inheritance tax planning and estate planning. Alison is a solicitor and will work one day per week with Thorntons Law LLP to assist with the drafting of wills, Power of Attorney documents and trusts to assist families and high net worth individuals with their affairs.
Bennett said: “It’s an exciting time to be joining the company alongside Matthew and Alison. Thorntons Investments has a great team culture with a clear ambition for the future. I look forward to working with my new team to extend our high levels of customer service to our clients.”
These significant positions are of strategic importance to Thorntons Investments and reflect its ambitious growth plans for 2017. The company currently employs a team of 36 across Scotland and earlier this month, completed renovations to its 6,700sq ft office space in Dundee.
